Saturday Shutters

Today started out pretty normal for a Saturday, though I slept in a bit more than normal. Hooray! After morning coffee, cereal and Facebook-checking, I watched some TV, getting caught up on some of the shows I missed during the week that I enjoy. All the while thinking I needed to be out running. Ugh. (I'm trying to stay motivated to work out, and I'm just not accomplishing the task.) Eventually, I did indeed make it outside for a run. On my usual 3 mile loop, I ran by a house I alway love going past. It's a charming little (big) house with red shutters and nicely landscaped lawn. They have a little sign outside their door that says "PRAY" and a rock with a verse painted on it. It inspires me, and I can't wait to have my own house to decorate and landscape.

I digress...

Today something was different...on the sidewalk directly in my path, sat an old chair on the sidewalk with a cardboard sign that read, "FREE" duct taped to the seat. Leaning against it were two very cute green shutters. My little mind began to whirl with creative possibilities.

I ran past, albeit, slowly, and rubber-necked my way down the street. The rest of my run was spent thinking of ways to convince my husband I'd found a treasure that I "really needed." (Although I figured it would be ok because the best part of this story is that they were "FREE!")

When I got home it suprisingly didn't take too much wrangling to get him to agree--next to none actually! So, I went back about an hour later and behold, there were the green shutters still leaning on the cute little chair. I took only the shutters, and despite the fact that I wavered on the chair (it needed re-upholstered and fitting one more thing into our small apartment was a little more work that I am ready to tackle at this point--and I think Bryan may have balked a bit if I carried a chair in the door).

Here they are!!

Bryan even got excited at the potential of  these quaint little pieces and helped me search the internet for some good ideas for multiple uses. I haven't completely decided what I want to do with them but I've got some great ideas, and have decided to start looking on Craig's List and at yardsales for more unique finds. I can't wait to get started and post pictures of the finished product! Stay tuned!
