Here in the Willamette Valley, spring comes earlier than where I grew up in Idaho. March in Idaho is simply an extension of winter. Not as severe of course, but an extention of winter nonetheless. Piles of snow that haven't yet melted, spring skiing that is glorious, and quite chilly--but generally dry days. March in Western Oregon means blooming daffodils, green grass and lots of unpredictable weather. Spring break came to the Valley and so did the sunshine--for a bit. The Tulip Festival is booming in Woodburn, the daffodils are nearly finished and the Iris Festival is on its way. There are times I'm very thankful for the lack of snow and cold. There are other times when I miss home and the lack of a continually gray sky. Though I can't complain--yesterday we had brilliant sun breaks which led to torrential downpours, which in turn ushered in a hail storm with freezing rain, and ended with a crazy sunset. Of course overnight, the rain returned and it is quite gray today, but that makes me all the more thankful for the pops of color I see giving glimpse to the glory of spring!
Bryan and I took an afternoon before we left for Idaho and went down to the capitol building to take in some of the beautiful day. As you can see, things are blooming in full force and the colors are gorgeous!
The capitol "mall" area is alive with blooms and a carpet of petals covered the grass and sidewalk. I felt like it was the perfect setting for a wedding...now, who would plan an outdoor wedding in March in the Willamette Valley?! That remains to be seen. :)
